Split and Multiply

🟩 Why is 27 × 34 written on two lines, and why is the second line shifted one place? Split both numbers into tens and ones and you get four pieces: 600 + 210 + 80 + 28 — add them up and you get 918, exactly the product. Seen as area, it is obvious how large the tens-by-tens piece is. 📝 Long multiplication just bundles those four pieces into two lines. Set the bottom number's ones digit to 0 and the first line vanishes entirely; set the tens digit to 1 and the second line becomes the top number with a 0 attached — that is why it shifts. 🎯 Finally you fill in both lines yourself. The app adds the total, so you can focus on multiplying. This app was built with code too · remix it to stretch into three-digit multiplication?
