Plant Parts and Functions

Each Part’s Job — Block off the root, stem, leaf, or flower one at a time: block the root and the other three all wilt, but block the flower and everything else stays fine — it just can’t make seeds — showing each part does a different job. The Path Water Climbs — Toggle sunlight, wind, and humidity to shift transpiration through 5 levels, 0 to 4, and watch how fast the water drops in the graduated cylinder. Looking Through a Microscope — Raise the magnification from 100× to 400× and stomata appear starting at 300×; go higher and you can clearly see the two guard cells that open and close them. In the end you realize the water dropping and the stomata opening are really the same story.
