Microbes and Classifying Life

In Zoom In, pick mold, paramecium, or E. coli and raise the magnification up to ×1000 to reveal microbes invisible to the naked eye. In Which Group?, read clues like "no roots, stems, or leaves" to sort 9 living things into fungi, protists, and bacteria — mold as a fungus, paramecium as a protist, E. coli as a bacterium. In Good or Bad, adjust temperature and humidity over 4 days: the very same microbes can turn ingredients into kimchi, soybean paste, or bread — or spoil that same food under different conditions. Microbes aren't simply good or bad; how they act depends on the conditions you set.

Classifying Triangles and Quadrilaterals

🔺 Shapes are named for their «properties», not their «looks». Change the three angles to make right and obtuse triangles. Make two angles equal, and the opposite sides become equal too—an isosceles triangle. Set all three angles to 60° to make an equilateral triangle, and discover that it’s also isosceles. 🔷 In the quadrilateral tab, move the vertices on the grid. Make the top side equal to the base for a parallelogram, set the tilt to 0 for a rectangle, or make all four sides equal for a rhombus. Make a shape that is both a rectangle and a rhombus—and you get a square. You can see how the names overlap. 🎯 Finally, choose the «most precise name» for the shape you drew.
