Your Body Knows First

🧠 Why do you pull away from a hot pot before even thinking? Test signal pathways to see the answer — going through the brain adds an extra 35 ms! 👁️ Eyes adjust two things: the iris controls light through pupils, while lenses change thickness to focus. Compare distant stars and a nearby book to see how! 🌡️ Put hands in cold and warm water, then into lukewarm water — one feels warm, the other cold! Skin feels changes, not actual temperature. How Far Are the Stars?

🔭 How do we measure the distance to stars without a ruler? As Earth moves to the opposite side over half a year, nearby stars seem to shift side to side. The larger the shift, the closer the star, and parallax × distance is always 1! 💡 But a brighter-looking star isn't always truly brighter. You can create a star that is 4 times brighter but 6 times farther away so it looks dimmer. Try finding a star that looks identical to a reference star in two ways. 🌌 Farther galaxies move away faster. Even if you move the observer from A to D, the rule stays the same — so the universe has no center! This app was built with code · Remix it to add your own stars!

Hidden Genes

🧬 Why do traits appear in children that their parents didn't show? Genes come in pairs, and yellow Y masks green y. A pea can look yellow while hiding a green gene inside! That makes two physical traits but three gene combinations. 🔲 With Punnett squares, pick the parents' genotypes and four offspring boxes fill in automatically. When two yellow parents produce a green offspring, hidden genes met — showing a 3 yellow : 1 green ratio. 🩸 With blood types, discover how A, B, and O genes create four blood types. Find out how two type A parents can have a type O child! Built with code — remix it to try other traits!
